Crazy Coincidences. Lucky Days. Awesome Friends.

It must be my lucky day!

As I was walking to my afternoon class, I bump into one of my classmates, Gabby, and she tells me it’s cancelled. Her next question surprised me, “Do you want to see John Legend right now? He’s having a free concert in Culver City!” Oh boy, was I excited! I did not even hesitate to pass that offer. Luckily we were together on this adventure. It was one of those mini concert/performance things where you don’t find out where the artist will be ‘til the day of. Surprisingly we didn’t even know ‘til the hour before! He was located at the Culver Hotel, not too far from school. I was in charge of navigating, and she was well… in charge of driving! We thought we were going to hit that nasty LA traffic, but lo and behold, we did not. PARK. WALK. and RUN, we did… I heard a teeny bit of his voice and pulled Gabby to book it! We didn’t know where we were going, so we tried looking around for a big crowd, but none seemed to appear. I overheard another girl ask one of the people working at the farmer’s market where John Legend was, and she pointed out the direction. Once that crosswalk went on, we ran!

The crowd wasn’t too big, so we squeezed through them (keep in mind we’re both short and couldn’t see a thing). He performed “All of Me” one of the tracks off his new album…and ahhh, did it touch our hearts. Much of the music I hear today involves derogatory, offensive language that are both catchy and fun to dance to, but don’t have meaning at all. I’m sure you’ve all heard of his song “Ordinary People” and dang, that’s where it started with all “the feels.” Ever since then, I knew John Legend was a great artist; he was able to connect to the audience as a performer. His music is easily relatable and pleasing to the ear.

Although we arrived at the last song, it was well worth it. I almost lost hope that we couldn’t find him…but we did! We were even interviewed and given free shirts!

What did I find from this experience?

Well, this hasn’t been the first time a friend has invited me to a free concert. I’ve had my roommate bring me with her to Vegas, not once, but TWICE! She received Seatfiller tickets to the Billboard Music Awards during the summer and most recent, the Iheart Radio Music Festival! Another instance where I was invited to a free concert was for the Backstreet Boys, it was more of a studio taping, but still WHO WOULDN’T BE EXCITED?!? I mean, I am still waiting for the day *NSYNC will get back together! (crossing my fingers) Wait, maybe I have a chance! Tomorrow I’ll be going to the Justin Timberlake concert with my “Big Sis”…also FREE! Wow, I’m just extremely lucky to have friends like them. I honestly don’t know how I would ever repay them for these experiences. THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH!

If you’re a hardcore fangirl, please share your story! I don’t want to look like the only one here (;
